Overview

This course is our invitation to you to combine further professional development training with a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the heart of the French Alps and global capital of trail running, Chamonix Mont Blanc. Once in Chamonix, there will be daily lectures and practical sessions on physiotherapy treatment specifically focused on the runner. This will be combined with mountain runs on the iconic trails around the Chamonix valley, and carefully tailoured yoga and guided relaxations.

Sample Itinerary

  • Arrive in Geneva and transfer to Chamonix via shared airport transfer. Check in to our elegant chalet for the next six nights. Enjoy some personal time to relax by the swimming pool or use the hot tub before a yoga and relaxation class, followed by our welcome dinner.

  • Begin with a morning yoga class outside on the decking if the weather allows. Take some personal time to shower and prepare for the day before enjoying a delicious breakfast to fuel and nourish us.

This will be followed by the “Real Running Course” introduction and lecture. We’ll then head out on the trails for our first shakeout run, nothing too strenuous for the first time on the trails in Chamonix.

In the late afternoon we will have our second yoga class of the day, focusing on restorative poses and leaving plenty of time for a guided relaxation and meditation.

You will then be free until early evening when we will enjoy a delicious family-style dinner, with plenty of food to refuel, stimulate your taste buds, and spark some curiosity.

  • Each day will follow a similar format to the first full day. Today will begin with a ride on one of the many lifts in the Chamonix valley, followed by a run along one of the higher balcony trails offering amazing views of the high mountains and allowing you to fully immerse yourself in this incredible alpine landscape.

Our run will be approximately 3–4 hours total, with 10–15 km of distance and up to 500 m of elevation gain and 1,000 m of descent.

  • Today we will take the train from Chamonix and head up the valley towards the Swiss border. The run will be 3-4 hours with an optional hour-long valley run at the end. 10-15km (optional distance adds another 10km). Expect more elevation gain today – up to 1,000m.

The focus on the yoga today will be maintenance in the morning and then targeted post run yoga stretching.

  • The day starts with an energising vinyasa flow yoga class before breakfast and ends with a restorative yin class after dinner. For the run, we will tackle the infamous Vertical Kilometre from the centre of town: 1,000 vertical metres in just over 3.5 km.

Think of this as a fast hike rather than a run and you will be fine. There are options to ride the lift down, take a tandem paraglide flight (at additional cost), or even run down if your legs are up to it.

The run will be 2-3 hours with 1,000 metres of vertical gain and 5km total. If you choose to run back down this is another 1,000 metres of descent and 6-8 kilometres over 1.5-2 hours.

  • As this is our last day on the trails, the plan is to go big, but don’t worry, we will start the day with a cable car ride to 2,500 m. From the top of Brévent we will descend into the wilder side of the Aiguille Rouge reserve, dropping down to the Diosaz river and then heading up toward the rustic Moede d’Anterne refuge for a light lunch. From here we descend over 1,100 m to Servoz and ride the train back to Chamonix.

The run will be 5-6 hours with 400 metres of ascent and 1,100 metres descent, with approximately 18km.

Our yoga class will focus on restoring the body after a hard week on the trails.

After dinner we will be treated to a sound bath ceremony— as if you could get any more relaxed.

  • We’ll enjoy one last banquet breakfast before checking out of the chalet and beginning our onward journeys, refreshed, well fed, and informed.

New friendships made and a renewed outlook on life, work, and what balance truly means.

Trail Running & Yoga

How serious a trail runner do I need to be?

The trail running will be suitable for intermediate-level runners, provided you can comfortably run for up to 3–5 hours and handle around 1,000 metres of elevation gain.

Pre-trip preparation will be important, as running in the Alps is generally more demanding than in most other places.

We will tailor each run to match the group’s abilities and can adjust certain days to suit different fitness levels and technical skills.

Overall, the routes are designed for beginner to intermediate trail runners with some prior experience on trails.

What about the yoga?

The yoga component of the retreat is designed for beginner to intermediate practitioners and focuses on applying yoga principles to movement, rehabilitation, and performance.

Through guided practice and discussion, participants will gain a deeper understanding of how yoga-based mobility, strength, and breathwork can support musculoskeletal health and complement physiotherapy interventions.

By the end of the retreat, you will have developed a practical framework for integrating yoga-informed techniques into your clinical and athletic rehabilitation work, as well as tools to support your own physical resilience and wellbeing.
